Summary/Abstract: The last work of the literate and lawyer Vasile Aaron (1780-1821), The Story of Sophronimus and of the fair Carite, daughter of Aristephus, the ruler of Miletus, was published in 1821, in Sibiu. It had been previously proven that the piece's inspiration stemmed from Sophronime, a neoclassic tale belonging to French poet and writer Jean-Pierre Claris de Florian (1755-1794).The present paper aims to track the steps of the Transylvanian Sophronimus ... back to the ancient Greek writing. It appears that Vasile Aaron had borrowed the subject from a Wallachian boyar, the cupbearer Iordache Slătineanu, who in a volume released 1797 by the Hochmeister printing house in Sibiu had published a translation of the original neogreek story.
