Summary/Abstract: The study is the fruit of the research being made on the 1850-1900’s repertoire and the per-for¬mances of the professional theatre in Sibiu, at a time when this concept of an actors’ theatre was still in its early stage. It is a survey of the theatre managers who left their imprint on each theatre session, i.e., on the selection of the repertoire, actors, performances, and tours. This study is an attempt at sketching out a 50-year history of the theatre in Sibiu, when this organization of this cultural institution got consolidated under the guidance of quite a large number of managers, be they artists as well, or impresarios only. A most outstanding feature of the Sibiu theatre in the second half of the nineteenth century was the variety of the theatrical genres being considered (drama, comedy, tragedy), along with opera and operetta performances, featuring some of the most celebrated local or Viennese actors, in a cultural conglomerate most beneficial to Sibiu’s theatre audience.
