Summary/Abstract: The article presents views of the ancient Balts on the structure and origin of the world, reconstructed on the basis of archeological excavation sites, folklore, mythology and linguistic data. Four to five thousand years ago, the ancestors of today’s Lithuanians and Latvians had already developed views, based on religious and mythological beliefs, on the relationship between humans and nature, as well as the origin and structure of the world. Their interest in the universe then developed into astronomical observations, a search for regularities in celestial phenomena and the development of a calendar.
