Participation of the Non-profit Organization Entities in Organizing Sport Events as Exemplified by Mass Running Races

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is the discussion of the engagement of NGO entities in the sphere of organizing sports events, like mass running races. The paper presents the typo-logy of the non-profit sector and statistics concerning their number. It shows in more deta-iled way the structure of its engagement in sports activities in the areas of sports, tourism, recreation and hobbies, together with depicting the character of activity. The article also presents the findings of research making use of secondary data sources concerning the or-ganizers of mass running races and the participation of the NGO in this structure, both for the whole Poland as well as divided into Polish regions. It also refers to the engagement of the NGOs in organizing mass running races in connection with the size and purpose of a par-ticular event.
