Summary/Abstract: Russian influences in the anthroponymy of the inhabitants of nineteenth-centuryPiotrków Trybunalski were analysed in three dimensions, i.e. 1) the social image of theRussian population in the nineteenth century, resulting from the records in Piotrków’sregistration books; 2) morphological characteristics of surnames belonging to the representativesof the Russian community; 3) phonetic, graphic and morphological adaptationof Russian anthroponyms to the Polish language system. Such an analysis indicated thatthe origin of the largest group of people of Russian were military and tsarist officials. They had mainly patronymic surnames, created from Russian or Orthodox name bases. The discussed anthroponyms in varying degrees in the source documents underwent polonizationin terms of graphics, phonetics and, rarely, morphology. The names containing thecontinuation of the East-Slavic s’, z’, c’, š, ž, č and t’, d’, r’ were recorded in a variant way. These voices were carried out graphically with an attempt to render the original pronunciationor were polonized and recorded in accordance with the Polish language standard.
