Sharing Economy: A Synthesis of the Phenomenon

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to systematize concepts related to the phenomenon ofthe sharing economy and to present its theoretical bases. The attempts by economics researchers to interpret the phenomena related to sharing have notimproved their understanding sufficiently. The appearance of numerous proposals causes some kind of interpretative chaos, which, for those interested not onlyin understanding such phenomena but also in studying them, can be considereda significant obstacle. In addition, in Polish literature English terminology istranslated in various ways, further hampering the understanding of the phenomena. The article identifies the relationship between the phenomena of the sharingeconomy, the collaborative economy, the access economy and the peer-to-peereconomy. The author also proposes an unambiguous approach to the interpretation of the sharing economy and a Polish translation of the term.
