Summary/Abstract: In the life of every child, periods of crisis or different traumas can appear, that can influence their normal evolution and can reduce their abilities to fight everyday challenges. Such a situation is also parental separation or divorce that brings a lot of negative consequences in their normal life routine, including in their education. School is one of the most important environments in which children perform, not only in terms of gaining knowledge and information, but also in terms of relating with their peers and their teachers. A powerful and troubling event, like the divorce of their parents, can cause concentration issues, lack of interest and - most importantly- loss of self-esteem, of trust and feelings of isolation. That is why teachers and other specialists involved in ensuring the normal evolution of the child in the educational environment must gain the necessary competences and abilities in order to combat the negative effects of personal traumas. This article analyses both the consequences of parental separation on children and the possible strategies and techniques that can be applied when working with them.
