Summary/Abstract: We carried out this research at the Italian language department, University Badji Mokhtar of Annaba, Algeria, in order to show the importance and role of teaching literature in the training of Algerian students. Literature is considered as an example of a language that enriches the linguistic competence of students. The learner who reads, as well as acquires historical knowledge, also develops his critical abilities, therefore through literature he will have the opportunity of a moral and affective growth. So the main objective of literary teaching is to train individuals to make them "social actors", competent and able to manage their exchanges in society autonomously and safely.
