Abbreviations, Logos and Acronyms Used in Economic Language

Summary/Abstract: Today, initials and acronyms are a remarkably widespread linguistic phenomenon involving a shorthand process, which reflects our need for linguistic economy (graphic and verbal). This paper aims to analyse these two linguistic phenomena in the current economic discourse, especially because their manifestations have constantly increased in the last two decades and sometimes a correct decoding is difficult to achieve. For example, the “morphological field” (i.e. the origin) of certain initials may become fuzzy due to their frequent use and subsequently, this may lead to misinterpretations, for foreigners in particular, who cannot find the necessary explanations in the dictionaries.
