Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to determine the specifics of the transformation of folk and historical types in the image of the Mother of God, as well as to identify the stylistic and iconographic features of the development of baroque iconography of the XVII–XVIII centuries and at the present stage. Methodology. The scientific provisions of the article are argued at the level of a set of general scientific methods of cognition, cultural and art historical methodological approaches. Comparative historical (for a comparative analysis of the specificity of the interpretation of the image of the Virgin in iconography) and typological (aimed at identifying and defining the features of the development of baroque iconography of the XVII – XVIII centuries) methods were used; as well as methods of artistic analysis and style approach (to identify the specifics of the transformation of the types of iconography, composition, aesthetic principles and changes in the stylistic features of the Mother of God icons in retrospect). Scientific novelty.
