LABOR IN THE HIGHER EDUCATION SECTOR. SPECIFICATIONS, FEATURES, CHALLENGES

Summary/Abstract: Current study examines the specific features of the work of teachers in higher education institutions in Bulgaria. Based on empirical evaluations from a national representative survey, commissioned by the „Working Conditions“ Fund and implemented by the “Higher Education” Trade Union - "Podkrepa" Confederation of Labour, the main characteristics of teaching work are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to these characteristics of the work of teachers, which provoke the occurrence of psychosocial stress and generate mental, psychological and intellectual fatigue. The conducted analysis proves that the work of the teachers is of high psychological, intellectual and mental intensity, which is why excessive levels of psychosocial stress occur in the course of its exercising.
