Summary/Abstract: The new Romanian Civil Code has substantially altered the vision of the spouse's matrimonial regime by introducing the possibility of adopting a matrimonial regime adapted to their patrimonial situation. Future spouses are able to choose between two totally different systems of family organization : either a system of separation of assets or a community-based system. Both systems have advantages and disadvantages, but only spouses may decide the formula that seems to be the most suitable .
