National-cultural identity and its valuable basis: education, manners, morality and the patriotism of Ukrainians

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to determine the phenomenon and fundamental principles of the formation of national-cultural identity in the context of the traditional values of education and culture of Ukraine. The methodology of the research is to apply the comparative-historical approach – in work on scientific works of domestic and foreign scientists devoted to the question of national-cultural identity in different historical periods; structural-functional approach – in determining the role and place of cultural codes of Ukrainians in the formation of their own national identity. Scientific novelty of the work consists in the definition of the concept of national-cultural identity by the author. The continuity of national education in the direction of individual and comprehensive development of children and young people of Ukraine, narrow specialization and early professionalization, the growing interest of the younger generation in the national culture and language, which lay the foundation for the formation of national-cultural identity, has been identified. The article identifies the main factors that determine the possibility of overcoming the negative consequences of the "information explosion", "information warfare", among which: compilation of critical analytical reviews of cultural and artistic products; the introduction among users of social networks of topics and discussions concerning national-cultural identity and its value bases. Conclusions. The author outlines the main directions of patriotic education of the younger generation of Ukraine, among them: raising their level of civil and national consciousness, establishing respect for the cultural and historical past of Ukraine, etc. It was determined that the formation of national-cultural identity is connected with the assimilation by Ukrainians of the cultural codes of the contemporary world picture reproduced in the images of the cross as one of the central values of the Christian world; tree of the family and the tree of life – symbols of continuity, continuity of the genus; Cossack Mamay, who represents the indomitable will of the people in the struggle against the oppressors; Taras Shevchenko, Ivan Franko and Lesia Ukrainka as geniuses of the Ukrainian nation.
