Summary/Abstract: This study discusses the ethical issue of the developmentof hearing technology in the form of cochlear implants thatare used by an ever-growing number of deaf and hard ofhearing people. The development of this kind of technologyhas progressed so quickly all over the world, includingPoland, that the deafness paradigms have drasticallychanged. This may affect, to a greater or lesser degree, notonly the implementation of early support programmes, butalso the image of the Deaf communities using their respectivesign languages on a daily basis. It is therefore necessaryto create an eclectic model of education for deaf andhard of hearing people which would allow for the ethicaloption to integrate the conflicting approaches on theproper procedure for deciding on the language (spoken orsigned) and the culture (the hearing or the Deaf one) forthe development of deaf and hard of hearing students withcochlear implants or hearing aids.
