Summary/Abstract: The New Criminal Proceeding Code (”NCPC”) modifies substantially the criminal proceeding institutions by introducing new ones (home arrest, agreement on the recognition of guilt, appeal on the duration of the criminal trial, etc) and by modifying the existing ones (i.e. the defense right, the celerity etc), all for the purpose of the better management of the criminal prosecution and trial, accordingly to the law principles that govern the whole criminal trial. This article offers an overview upon the main changes brought by the Criminal Proceeding Code. After its entry into force, on 1st February 2014, the new Code had a tremendous impact upon the jurisprudence by the newly created institutions and by the amendment of the old ones and has managed already to create issues of non-uniform practice.
