Summary/Abstract: The course of life covering three basic phases - youth-adulthood-old age - is clearly complicated in a post modern society, especially during the transition from youth to adulthood. The process of becoming an adult is getting alarmingly prolonged. Young people reach full adulthood later and later in life, which includes economic independence through a permanent job, social independence in the sense of independent living and running a household, and starting a family. The texts contained in this volume present the results of sociological research on this complex phenomenon, which is the product of the impact of global processes, the structural conditionings behind the functioning of young people, and their individual choices.
