Summary/Abstract: The article presents the findings of qualitative research on the educational aspects of – and conditionings behind – reaching full adulthood by young adult Poles. It is based on the assumption that during the process of transition to adulthood education plays the key role in the empowerment and self-sufficiency of individuals in relation to other spheres of life, i.e. primarily the professional one, but also with regard to family or housing. Education is rather frequently seen as a precondition for succeeding in the labor market, which, in turn, determines one’s choice of an appropriate educational path. The aim of this article is to determine the position of education in the life strategies of contemporary young adults. What are the young adults’ attitudes towards education? Are their educational choices really dictated solely by the requirements of the labor market? The presented research results are based on a series of in-depth interviews with young Poles aged 25-34 from a large Polish city, as well as focus group interviews with the representatives of their institutional environment, i.e. local public administration and social policy institutions.
