Summary/Abstract: The Aristophaniada, a drama text by the Idea Theater Group is inspired by Aristophanes’ survived comedies and today’s political end everyday life in Greece. The play is an interesting, very original and bold interpretation of Aristophanes. As a mixture of various dramatic elements such as the ancient comedy, grotesque, pantomime, mim, musical, theater of the shadows, stand–up, ballet, opera, Chaplin’s gags, circus and the theater of Karolos Kun it puts on scene all Aristophanes’ comedies in a very genuine way, leaving no one indifferent. It tries to bring to the Greek theater the role drama texts had in the time of Aristophanes, to be in contact with the real life, waking the audience from the lethargy, indolence and apathy. Very thoughtfully every component fits into the text which begins with Aristophanes who writes a new comedy under the title Penia/ the Starvation and ends with the Pluto/Wealth. Between these two comedies all others are staged in the Underworld with Aristophanes, who had previously died and now has to win his life back by persuading the dead souls at the theater contest. Finally Aristophanes gains the audience’s favor, firstly the favor of the master of the World of the Dead and of course yours as well who had participated in the whole event.
