TASKS OF MATICA SRPSKA AND LETOPIS MATICE SRPSKE: THE LETTERS OF TIHOMIR OSTOJIĆ TO MILUTIN JAKŠIĆ

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents and explains letters which Tihomir Ostojić sent to Milutin Jakšić during the period from 1899 to 1921. Twenty-seven letters of Tihomir Ostojić sent to Milutin Jakšić which are kept in the Manuscript Department of Matica Srpska, are a proof of the closeness, trust, and the collaboration between the two lifelong friends, but for the most part, the letters are important for the understanding of the social background which Ostojić and Jakšić worked in; about their effort to reform Matica srpska; and about their striving to raise the number of subscribers and trustees of Letopis Matice srpske. The letters of Tihomir Ostojić are essential for perceiving the manner in which Ostojić deals with topical questions of social life, such as the organization of Matica srpska’s operations and the question of editing policy, the programme, associates, trustees and subscribers of Letopis Matice srpske.
