Summary/Abstract: Modernism in European literature at the turn of the 19th century is tightly connected with the term of „spiritual renaissance“ which brings deep interest in religious and philosophical systems. Consequently, there came an intensive intersection of these systems into aesthetic, philosophical and art work of particular writers. The influence of The Book of Revelation on prose of Czech and Russian symbolism is being analysed in the article. The author is attempting to find symbols of Apocalypse (symbols of destruction of civilization and its spiritual renewal) in work of art of J. Zeyer, V. Solovjov and A. Belyj.
