The classification of sectors’ financial situation using the methods of multivariate statistical analysis

Summary/Abstract: The information about the sectors’ financial ratios is extremely helpful in assessing the financial situation of enterprises. The aim of this article is to create the classification of sectors in terms of financial ratios by using multivariate statistical analysis methods: cluster analysis and classification trees. The methods allowed to group the sectors due to the financial ratios. The classification covered 53 sectors due to 14 diagnostic variables used as financial ratios. The source of the information to carry out the classification, were data concerning sectoral indicators for 2009. This classification can be a valuable source about sectors both for investors and companies.
