Summary/Abstract: After some time during which research in this field has slowed, artificial neural (or neuronal) networks are again center of attention.Built following human physiological and psychological models, these networks have attained superhuman performance in fields that not longer than a decade ago seemed impossible. In all this effervescence, protection of these networks by means of intellectual property rights is both an urgent and necessary for the promotion of further investment in the field. The literature on the subject however seems quite limited when dealing with the application of intellectual property rules to this type of network. The article therefore states and briefly analyzes the intellectual property regimes that might serve the purpose but also the problems that obtaining such rights would cause.
