Summary/Abstract: This article describes the linguistic background and abilities of the students of the Hungarian line of study in learning business English at B1-B2 levels. It also analyses the learners’ mother tongue/first language (Hungarian), and their second language (Romanian) from genetic and morphological perspectives, depicting the most relevant aspects in a possible comparison of the potential of how these languages assist the students in the process of studying business English. The study concludes that, in studying English, students rely on the linguistic knowledge of their second language and exploit it in the learning process.
