Politeness in Business Letters in Romance Languages – some Linguistic Particularities

Summary/Abstract: The paper performs a linguistic and pragmatic analysis of business letters in Romance languages. A special focus has been given to politeness expressed through pronouns and nouns. The alignment between pronouns, nouns and verbs expressing politeness has also been taken into consideration. The difference between the semantic and morphological alignments between such forms has been studied. Other aspects of politeness occurring in business letters in Romance languages have been looked at from a comparative perspective.
