Summary/Abstract: As confirmed by prevoius research, Johannes Herolt’s collection Sermones discipuli served as a template for Divković’s book of sermons Besjede svrhu evanđelja nedjeljnijeh priko svega godišta (1616). It is also a well-known fact that Herolt compiled his sermons by using various text sources: biblical citations, quotes from church fathers, patristic authorities and ancient authors, medieval exempla, miracles and legends. Consequently, the polyfunctionality of Herolt’s text was inherited by its translators and compilers. Since it has already been attested that the lexis in Divković’s Besjede is of varoius origin and background, this paper deals with the language layering conditioned by the introduction of catechetical into the primary preaching discourse.
