Summary/Abstract: In its introduction, this contribution provides the characteristics of the 19th-century folklore research on Upper-Silesian songs and brings forward the researchers. The turning point in this field occurred in the 20th century, when the phonograph was used for the recording. In the main body of this contribution, the author presents the first recordings of regional songs made by Paul Schmidt in 1913 in Prudnik poviat and their most recent re-edition.
