Summary/Abstract: The catastrophic earthquake that struck Skopje in 1963, in which many people died or were injured, caused great material damage. As a result of the earthquake, a significant number of the religious buildings in the city were damaged or destroyed. Some of those objects, mostly of Eastern Orthodox and Islamic character, had remarkable cultural and historical significance.
