Innovation and Competitive Position of Microenterprises

Summary/Abstract: The article presents results of own research carried out among 382 microenterprises located in Warmińsko-mazurskie voivodeship. The aim of the study was to assess the relationship between innovation and the competitive position of microenterprises. Hypothesis assumed that the microenterprises’ innovativeness has a significant relationship with the competitive position achieved by these entities. In this study was observed that the biggest percentage of microenterprises were competitive (43,6%). On the other hand almost 30,0% of microfirms weren’t able to compete (29,3%). Innovative microenterprises had better competitive position than non-innovative. There were more innovation companies, which were „strong in their competitive” (28,1%) than „weak in competitve” (25,8%). In non-innovatiove units the results were presented as follows: 19,5% („strong”) and 26,6% („weak”). So, microenterprises characterized by weaker competitive position were outnumbered. The study also noted a statistically significant, relatively strong, positive correlation (Spearman’s rank order correlation at the level of 0,226) between level of innovation and competitive position, which together with the results, have confirmed the innovation impact on the competitive position of companies.
