Summary/Abstract: Purpose of Research. The purpose of the article is to analyze the ways of development of modern American musical and mainstreaming of the genre at the turn of the third millennium. Methodology. Methodology of the research consists in the application of analytical, artistic, comparative and systematic approaches of studying state, tendencies, theatrical management, specificities and features of the repertoire policy of Broadway theatre with its leading genres – musical at the turn of the third millennium. Scientific Novelty. The scientific novelty of the research is to approve that the play is attitudinal dominant of present Post-modern culture, in which the element of spectacle has rather important role, so the interest to the distinctive theatrical genres is enhanced. Conclusion. At the beginning of XX century mass culture contributed to the appearance of musical as the most accessible genre for mass audience and post-modern culture focused on the musical genres as well as musicals. The appearance of a musical was historically connected with American music theatre, where the production of Broadway canon was created. Nowadays the program of financial support of New York ‒ the capital of theatrical life as well as repertoire policy of musical theatre and also sound theatrical management contributed to the popularization of the genre. One of the most profitable in the history was “The Lion King” and Julie Taymor was the first female-producer who got Tony Award for the production. Among modern profitable trends in competing for audience experiments with the newest computer technologies, using The Internet and webcam are conducted.
