Summary/Abstract: With the continued growth of interest in business model concept and the multifariousness of research topics concerning business models, it is relevant to participatein the discussion on the necessity and the role of classifying business models, as well as on the significance of classification schemes in these studies. The aim of the articleis to present the major approaches towards categorizing business models recountedin the scientific literature, and to identify the significance of the classification from the perspective of further research and practice. The paper is divided into two primary sections – first part, based on the literature review, includes the concise introduction to the research problem. The second part of the article concludes the results of authors’ empirical studies on utilization of taxonomic methods (cluster analysis) in the research on business models of Polish health resorts.
