Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the issue of the role of managers in the processes of motivating employees in businesses. The concept and the essence of motivation, motivating and motivational system are characterized. Then, motivation is discussed as an element of human resources management and the role of the manager in the process of motivating employees is identified.In the last part, considerations on ways of motivating employees on the example of upper andmiddle-level personnel are presented. It is emphasized that the creation of an optimal motivating system is undoubtedly an important element of human resources management, affecting the effectiveness of the employees. On the other hand, the success of the enterprise depends on employees’ commitment to work, which is possible only thanks to effective motivation. Unfortunately, employers still fail to notice this regularity. Challenges related to effective motivation in contemporary enterprises are significant, also taking into account the fact that the employers are not aware of the reality regarding the perception of the needs and expectations of their employees.
