Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the paper is to recognize key features and problems of the labour market in Poland relevant from the perspective of retail trade. The literature of the subject and other secondary sources of information allowing for identification the specificity of retail trade as a workplace, as well as a set of features constituting the attractiveness of work in retail trade.The paper shows the solutions applied by retailers to solve the problems connected with shortage of employees and their fluctuation.The paper is prepared on the basis of critical analysis of the literature of the subject and case study. The use of case study as a research method is associated with specific procedures and application of relevant tools [Majetun 2012, ss.349–366]. Analysed cases concerned the largest commercial chains in Poland. The analysis of the content of the websites (classification key/observation sheet) was applied in the study. In the article statistical sources, magazines and retailers reports related to the labour market were used. The research shows that retailers in Poland use numerous and diverse activities aimed at shaping the attractiveness of trade as a workplace. These activities mainly focus on such areas as the pay system, employee safety, the image of a friendly employer, shaping the career path and employee support.
