Summary/Abstract: Due to the composition and structure of its molecules, water has a number ofdistinct properties, and one of these is that water is a universal solvent. Water is dissolved in allthree aggregates - gases, liquids and solids. Because of this, pure water, without additions,basically does not exist. In this article the causes of water hardness and the consequences of the useof hard water in industry and in everyday life have been considered. The composition of water andthe methods of water softening, the use of the dry carbonate deposits as additives in buildingmaterials are listed.
