Summary/Abstract: At present, small rivers in the Republic of Moldova are facing a lot ofenvironmental problems caused by inadequate function and management of biological wastewatertreatment plants. One noticeable example is the Răut River, subjected to strong anthropogenicpressures. The terrible conditions of the river water result from untreated waste water in additionto secondary pollution caused by strong mud settling of reservoirs and adjacent pools. The mostpolluted river is found to be Bâc, the most altered segment of which starting from the Chisinaumunicipality, upstream of the bridge connecting Botanica and Ciocana sectors. Pollution increasesespecially from the place where the partially treated water sheds from the Chisinau WWTP in theBâc River to its confluence with the Nistru River. Quality indicators show a disastrous ecologicalstatus of water, creating impossible conditions of the fish existence. Physico-chemical laboratorysimulations have shown that in water samples diluted by 25 times from the place of Bâc shedding EcoSoEn, Scientific JournalEconomics, Social and Engineering Sciences Year 1, Nr.1, 2/2018________________________________________________________________________________280into the Nistru River, the self purification - nitrification processes are delayed compared to thosefrom the Nistru River ones. The need of renovation of wastewater treatment technologies inbiological stations in Moldova has become obvious during, at least, the last twenty years.
