Summary/Abstract: Information inadequacy amongst the parties to a trade transaction leads to inefficiency in the allocation of their resources. The problem of information access and its use is acknowledged in contemporary enterprise theories, which enables us to describe current economic phenomena more precisely. Information inadequacy or asymmetry in the market can result in the market’s fallibility, which may be corrected by state intervention. However, there are markets characterised by information inadequacy and asymmetry between the transaction parties which are not and may not be regulated by state institutions: for example, the information market. In this case, it is important to understand the nature of information asymmetry, as well as the causes and consequences of this phenomenon. The aim of this article is to present research results concerning information asymmetry in enterprises. The results may be interesting for researchers specialising in agency theory and for practitioners managing economic ventures.
