Mannerism, queer “poetics” and the subversion of myths

Author(s): Piotr Sobolczyk
Subject(s): Studies of Literature
Published by: Instytut Badań Literackich Polskiej Akademii Nauk
Keywords: Mannerism; queer poetics

Summary/Abstract: Following Gustav Rene Hocke’s research, the author argues for the transhistorical character of Mannerism and relates it to numerous contemporary discourses, e.g. queer theory. This provides the basis for the reconstruction of non-essentialist queer “possible poetics” including the discourse of camp. In the second part of the article, the author analyses the notion of subversion (in opposition to inversion) and projects it against the displacement of myths undertaken by homo-textual art and literature.
