Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the role of repetition in the essays by Zbigniew Herbert. Firstly, repetition seems to be related to the understanding of art as a “creative repetition” of reality. Herbert was in favour of the Aristotelian vision of mimesis understood as a creative representation and imitation of reality. Secondly, Herbert believes that reading is not a single fact but rather a process, which involves a constant repetition of cognition and interpretation. Observed on many occasions, the work is different every time in showing its different aspects. This process has not only a cognitive dimension, but also an ethical one - it is an expression of humility towards the mystery of the world. Communing with the beauty of works and their mystery becomes an opportunity for readers to enter the space of harmony and order, often associated with the sensation of happiness.
