Summary/Abstract: This article aims to discuss select themes of Bolesław Prus’s TheDoll in the context of disability studies from the historical literaryand cultural perspective. The author is interested in the psychologicalaspect of dealing with the disability of a male protagonistin a 19th-century realist novel. An important interpretativecontext is also provided by contemporary neurolinguistic andpsychoanalytic concepts, which are applied to reconstruct anintersubjective place for the encounter of the two protagonists,the inter-carnality of the relationship as well as the mechanismsof stigmatization and disablement.
