Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to present the results of the study regarding the influence of the family factors and early life nutrition on the prevalence of food allergies in Poland. They constitute part of a broader research conducted within the EuroPrevall project (FOOD-CT-2005-514000 – The Prevalence, Cost and Basis of Food Allergy Across Europe) – an international research project related to food allergies. The results are based on WP 2.3 (How do Dietary Differences and Changes in Dietary Habits in Europe Influence Food Allergies). The survey was carried out using a specially constructed questionnaire consisting of 51 questions. It involved 400 respondents aged 18+, including 192 males and 208 females from Małopolska region. The sample was considered representative due to demographic and economic homogeneity of the whole country. The results show i.a. that 7,8% of the respondents declared to suffer from food allergies, which is higher than the estimated average percentage of food allergy people in general population (<1%). However, almost half of them were based on self-diagnosis. Only one respondent had peanut allergy, most of them were allergies to fruits. All respondents with food allergy had family members with allergy, which confirms the results of other studies in this area.
