Summary/Abstract: The aim of this analysis is to identify factors indicating the time horizon forthe conclusion of the Spanish-Catalan dispute over the scope of the political independence of the Catalan community. The theoretical background ofthis analysis is the model of conflict proposed by Lewis Coser. Guided by its assumptions, the author seeks answers to questions about the symbolic point of conclusion of the dispute, the chances of recognition of failure by the weaker side of the conflic, the level of reality of the interests the sides are trying to defend, the extent to which the conflict is institutionalized and the links between elites and society. The text is divided into four parts. In the first part there is a historical outline of the conflict, in the second – a review of the most recent events making up its current stage, in the third– a brief lecture of L. Coser’s theory, and in the fourth – the essential part of the analysis, completed with conclusions.
