Summary/Abstract: The political theory of cosmopolitan democracy is modern reception ofKant’s philosophy of law and politics. By transferring key points of Kant’sperpetual peace into the age of modern civilization, Kant’s model of cosmopolitan order will be transcended and become a global order with certainfeatures of a world state. Legal aspects of cosmopolitan democracy are crucial for this qualitative jump. The author is particularly aware of broadeningof Kantian concept of cosmopolitan law and its reaching of the level of cosmopolitan democratic law and of pleas for post-Westphalian cosmopolitansovereignty, which was foreign to Kant, as well as supporting cosmopolitanpolitical order which would reach farther than the foedus pacificumof confederate type and would move toward a more centralized semifederal globalinstitutional arrangement. Enforcing cosmopolitan law in cosmopolitan-democratic settings requires legitimizing humanitarian military interventions, which is an essentially anti-Kantian trait of this project.
