Summary/Abstract: Documents on the post-war kidnapping of foreign nationals by the Soviet authorities are still a closely guarded secret in present Russia. In the Ukraine, however, things are different. As a result of the ongoing decommunisation, researchers have gained access to the materials from the former archives of the KGB of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. They are in the custody of the Specialised State Archives of the Ukrainian Security Service. The materials include the investigation files of the Smersh Counterintelligence Directorate of the Central Armies Group of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Among them is also the file on the Czechoslovak citizen, journalist and former Russian émigré, Konstantin Belgovsky.
