Summary/Abstract: The article is a review of the book Rzeczy, których nie wyrzuciłem by Marcin Wicha. It pertains to the two key topics of the book – the things and words that the narrator puts in order after his mother’s death. Various scraps and souvenirs give him an impulse to recall and tell several stories from the life of his own family. Wicha’s mini-essays tell a lot, not only about his deceased mother, but also about the times in which she lived and the changing post-war Polish reality. This text is an attempt to determine what the title “things” can actually be. Are they merely items? What is hidden under their material layer? What did Marcin Wicha really not throw out? How does the author’s thinking fit in with the posthumanist tendency to leave the anthropocene and turn to materiality?
