Summary/Abstract: The article examines the notions of old age in the Byzantine-Balkan Middle Ages. It attempts at defining when does old age come and which are its characteristics. The study searches for answers to the questions: what kind of care for the elderly people did the institutions and the family provide; what sort of food and medical care wereappropriate for them; what was the attitude of society towards the elderly people andwas there any difference between representatives of various social groups.
