Legal Status of People with Disabilities

Summary/Abstract: Overall position of disabled people is crucially influenced by legal regulations of their status. Attitude toward the disabled has changed through history. It started from the inevitable physical destruction of disabled children, through keeping completely silent about this category of population. Then came the acknowledgement of certain rights and finally modern legislation, which acknowledges the need to organise this field attentively both within the international and the national law. In order to be able to establish the factual position of this most frequently neglected social group it is inevitable to have an insight into the fact how its needs have been viewed through legal solutions within certain relevant areas. Crucial documents in legal international regulations have been analysed in this paper, ranging from general ones to the ones pertaining to immediate legal protection of disabled people. Legal acts in our legislation system have been analysed as well.
