Summary/Abstract: I appeal today to a man who, together with others, not many of them, has dealt with the knowledge of aspects of the environment in which we live, of the atmosphere of the great sea next to us, of which we are always bound and we do not know too many of those who, in the shadows, provide us with the information every day. The activity and scientific accomplishments of phd. Octavian ŞELARIU represent a continuum crescendo, confirmed during the ascending stages of his affirmation. At the beginning of his career, he made determinations and studies of hydrology and river hydrometry in the Olt basin; the results are recorded in the documentation of the Braşov Hydrological Station, pending by the Hydrometeorological Center of Sibiu. The research activity of the geographer Octavian Mircea Şelariu took place in teams of military and civilian specialists from the Maritime Hydrographic Directorate, the State Water Committee (Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, Institute of Hydrotechnical Studies and Research) from the Romanian Academy and others, being a complex research with a high degree of difficulty imposed by work at the Black Sea.
