Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to analyze the speeches of the presidents of Poland and Ukraine. This article is about specific words, called argumentative operators, which have an important persuasive function at the metatextual level of language. The main purpose of this text is to compare the use of argumentative operators for their persuasive properties in the New Year’s speeches from 2018 of both politicians. The textual functions and prosodic properties of operators have been analyzed.
