Summary/Abstract: The study presents a synchronic and diachronic perspective regarding the history of the book and printing in the historical, social, political and cultural context of the Netherlands in the 17th century, focusing on one of the most representative families of printers, publishers and booksellers: Elsevier.The Elsevier family, who flourished in Holland during the 17th century, were famous for the elegance of their type, the excellence of their presswork, the accuracy of their text and their successful effort to introduce the duodecimo as an improvement of the larger and more expansive forms of books.
