Summary/Abstract: The incorporation of Information and Communication Technologies to learning processes promotes a reconsideration of assessment systems, fostering a change of the teacher’s role as a communicator of the student’s mark to that of an open system in which teachers and students get involved in the learning process and develop online assessment skills. Based on the theoretical principles of assessment in virtual environments, this paper approaches e-assessment (Rodríguez Gómez, 2012), defined as any assessment process in which ICT is used in order to introduce and carry out assessment activities and tasks, register the answers and evaluate them from different perspectives: learners, teachers, institutions (JISC, 2007). The variety of applications of e-assessment and its innovation and efficiency reaffirm its potential as a booster of the learning process and learner outcomes (Open University, 2006)
