Production Perspective in Studies of the Polish Documentary Film

Summary/Abstract: The literature on the subject lacks an in-depth discussion of the specifics of working on the set of a documentary film, analysis of the stages of the production chain considered both in the social (working/creating people, relationships on the set) and market contexts (financing, distribution and promotional strategies). The author, also referring to her own creative experience, tries to outline the research field appropriate on the basis of industry documents, selected film databases and so-called emotional diaries, as well as ethnographic interviews with documentary film-makers and producers. In this way, the article fits into current research on the culture of film production, refers to the problems of the creative process and its context, reconstructed with the help of an ethnographic detail, the source of which are micro-histories.
